Benzene compounds
Produce a presentation on the following;
- How is benzene made? Tim
- Pick 2 other compounds, research and describe how they're made? Andre & Stan
- What is TCP? How to antiseptics work? James

Organic Chemistry
Simple questions really...
1)What is Organic Chemistry? Post your definition in the blog comments please.
2)How do Alkanes, Alkenes and Arenes differ from each other?

Work for Fri 18th Jan
We're currently studying heat and thermodynamics, so in light of this, research and produce a presentation showing how a Stirling Engine works.

The Diesel Engine
The SHC for air is 0.00121 J.kg-1.K-1
Given the volume of air is 500cm3, the density of air is 1.294kg.m-3, work out how much energy is required to compress the cylinder of air.
(Hint, convert the volume of air to mass first!)
Next, if the engine is running at 1000rpm, how much energy is needed to compress the air.
Show your working.

Compression & Expansion of gasses
Monday 10th Dec, P1-3
Working in pairs, produce a presentation which explains how the following work;
Air conditioning - James & Stan
A refrigerator - Andre & Tim
Elementary maths in your presentation is desirable!

Specific Heat Capacity
Graph your results for the three metals you heated.
Calculate the energy put into the bar over the time it was heated.
State any assumptions you made.

Heat & Thermodynamics
Find the definitions of these terms;
Heat
Solid
Liquid
Gas
Temperature
Temperature scales
Specific latent heat
Heat Expansion
Adiabatic
Isothermal
Isobaric
Isochoric
Polytrophic processes
Produce an egg-head stytle question for each one for next lesson.

Electrostatics and the cathode ray tube
Use library and/or Internet resources to investigate the
principle of the cathode ray tube. You should restrict your report to cathode
ray tubes that use electrostatic deflection of the electron beam. Present your
findings in the form of a written report of not more than 1,000 words and
include a labelled sectional diagram of a cathode ray tube showing the
electrode assembly and typical electric potentials.
